Schaumburg, Ill., January 15, 2023—The Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) proudly highlights our 2022 Year in Review including new CNS products, courses, milestones, and achievements made possible with the support of our members and volunteers.
The CNS membership reached a major milestone, surpassing 10,500+ members. Through a new collaboration with Resolve, CNS members now receive exclusive member discounts on legal contract review and negotiation services that provide professional guidance to empower members during transitions in their careers. CNS also launched its Online Education Subscription, a resource that is only available to CNS Members and provides unlimited access to many of CNS's best online resources.
CNS was awarded the highest honor of Accreditation with Commendation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). Accreditation in the ACCME System seeks to assure for the medical community and the public that the Congress of Neurological Surgeons delivers education that is relevant to clinicians’ needs, evidence-based, evaluated for its effectiveness, and independent of commercial influence. The CNS is honored to receive the six-year Accreditation with Commendation from the ACCME, which is the highest level to achieve.
In October, the CNS Annual Meeting celebrated incredible attendance, featuring a record 2262 abstract submissions, and providing more science than ever before at the CNS Annual Meeting. Attendees celebrated at the spectacular Opening Reception at Oracle Park, home to the San Francisco Giants, along with many inspiring speakers.
Neurosurgery Publications experienced many great changes. Wolters Kluwer became Neurosurgery Publications’ official publisher, and Neurosurgery and Operative Neurosurgery received their highest ever Impact Factors at 5.315 and 2.817, respectively. In September, Dr. Douglas Kondziolka became Editor-in-Chief, assuming the role from Dr. Nelson M. Oyesiku, who served as Editor-in-Chief from June 2009 to August 2022. In December, CNS unveiled a fresh look for the entire Publications suite of journals. Neurosurgery Open, the official Open Access journal of CNS, became Neurosurgery Practice, an online-only, fully Open Access journal representing the spectrum of neurosurgical practice. We thank CNS members, the Neurosurgery Publications’ Editorial Board, and all authors and reviewers for their support throughout 2022.
The CNS Foundation reached an impressive milestone, featuring 30 new awards including more than $700,000 in donations to neurosurgeons around the world. These awards were made possible by the many CNS Foundation donors.
In response to the crisis in Ukraine, CNS continues to provide free access to a variety of online educational content to physicians working in Ukraine. Our thoughts are with the members of the neurosurgical community who have loved ones affected by the crisis. The CNS stands with Ukraine and its people, including our members and their patients in the region.
CNS continued its relationship with the ABNS to launch parts 3 and 4 of the CNS SANS ABNS Primary Board Examination Review, for a total of 2,800 with all 4 parts combined. These can be purchased by residency program directors as a bundle or individual parts. CNS is the go-to resource for Primary Board Examination preparation, with many other resources to prepare residents for the exam.
CNS expanded educational offerings for its members through two new series on the CNS YouTube channel, Neurosurgery on the Go and Neurosurgery 100, which offer more quick and easy learning opportunities covering a variety of neurosurgical topics. Additionally, Controversies in Neurosurgery was added to the suite of CNS podcasts, for a total of 6 podcast series. CNS was proud to offer eleven courses both virtual and in person, including CNS’ inaugural Neurosurgical Emergencies virtual course, which is being held again on March 15, 22, and 29, 2023.
