CNS Foundation Announces Winners of Future Women Leaders in Neurosurgery International and Domestic Scholarships for 2023
Schaumburg, Ill., April 28, 2023—The CNS Foundation is pleased to announce two winners of Future Women Leaders in Neurosurgery Scholarships. New this year, one domestic and one international winner were selected.
The winners are:
- Maya Bhattachan is senior consultant in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the Nepal Medical College Teaching Hospital.
- Tracy Ma Flanders is an attending neurosurgeon in the Division of Neurosurgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Clinical Instructor at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.
Dr. Flanders will be admitted into the CNS Leadership Institute class 2023 and attend the 2023 CNS Annual Meeting. The CNS Leadership Institute is designed to empower neurosurgeons with the skills needed to shape their careers and lead departments, groups, organizations, hospitals, and health systems in today’s healthcare environment. Dr. Flanders will also receive an award stipend of $1,500.
Dr. Bhattachan will receive a $10,000 stipend to fund to travel from Nepal to the United States, to attend in person, a leadership course of her choice and to attend the 2023 CNS Annual Meeting.
“The CNS Foundation is very proud to support Dr. Bhattachan and Dr. Flanders in their development as future leaders of neurosurgery,” said CNS Foundation Chair, Martina Stippler, MD. “It is because of this award that we are creating a cohort of female leaders who support each other from around the world.”
“The donor who gives a substantial annual gift in support of these scholarships had a vision to create a supportive community of female leaders who will be mentors to future women,” said Ellen Air, MD, chair of the CNS Foundation Donor Relations Committee. “I know they are thrilled with the generous response from many additional donors who have joined in supporting the Foundation’s efforts to diversify the neurosurgeon workforce.”
