ACCME Accreditation Guidelines for Posters and PowerPoint Presentations
As an accredited provider of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), CNS must ensure that all CME programs comply with the ACCME Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education.
Please Note: Your poster and/or presentation slides will be reviewed for ACCME compliance.
Below are lists of faculty/speaker guidelines to assist you in developing the highest quality educational content and materials. These guidelines ensure compliance with the ACCME accredit and the CNS Policy and Standards for Independence and Integrity.
- DO NOT include a disclosure slide in your presentation. As an ACCME requirement, the CNS will provide an official list of relevant financial disclosures prior to the meeting. This list is based on the information submitted when accepting the invitation to participate in the 2023 CNS Annual Meeting.

- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Compliance- All individually identifiable health information regarding a client or patient must be sufficiently edited or modified to ensure HIPAA compliance.
- ACCME Standard 1: Ensure Content is Valid
- Educational Materials (slides, abstracts, handouts, videos, and photos) MUST:
- Include a fair and balanced view of diagnostic and therapeutic options. All recommendations for patient care must be based on current science, evidence, and clinical reasoning.
- Clearly identify new and evolving topics for which there is a lower or absent evidence base.
- Conform to the generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- Include citation and reference information about any data presented (study dates, design, etc.) to enable learners to look up that reference and assess research validity.
- Present topics without advocating for, or promoting, practices that are not, or not yet, adequately based on current science, evidence, and clinical reasoning.
- ACCME Standard 2: Prevent Commercial Bias and Marketing in Accredited Continuing Education
- Faculty (presenters, speakers, moderators, panelists) must not promote or sell products or services that serve their professional or financial interest during accredited education.
- Educational materials must be free of commercial bias for or against any company, product, drug, or device.
- Educational materials must not include:
- ACCME defined Ineligible companies’* corporate or product logos.
- All logos or brand names visible in photos or videos must be completely covered.
- Company, product, drug, or device brand/trade names. Generic names must be used.
- Do not include the ™ or ® symbol.
- If brand/trade names are listed, there MUST be at least two (2) other names listed to avoid the perception of bias.
- If only one is listed, it must be proven to be the ONLY or the BEST product, device, or drug available.
- Product promotional material.
*Ineligible company: Defined by the ACCME as "any entity producing, marketing, reselling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients.
Pharmaceutical and device companies are the most common example of an Ineligible Company.
